After watching a video on Joystiq about Halo 3: ODST, it is vibing me in all the right ways now. I am officially looking forward to it. I was sort of "meh" on it when it was shown at E3... but the more I see, the more I am liking.

Check it out yourself here:

tough to say anything is a sure thing, but i'll likely be giving it a chance as well. i really like that they are including all the multiplayer maps from halo3 and adding more. i did not buy into the last couple updates since i had paid for all the previous ones and all the previous ones they made free after a couple months.

all that aside i wish and hope they improve the lag online. other games seem to be doing a much better job of this or i'd chalk it up to living in alaska and surfing the low end of the bandwidth wave.
that looked good, i'm a fan of the firefly cast so the voices are welcome.. good talent there.

looking forward to getting a feel for the more gritty non-spartan physics and whatever refinements they have made.
i really miss the feel of a halo big team battle, they had a great formula there. that said i'm also looking forward to mag
Yeah the problem with multiplayer is that it is way too small these days.

I want my PlanetSide back. :)
I've never really understood why multiplayer is so limited on consoles. The architecture is all the same on any given platform (Wii, 360, PS3), so it would be easier to optimize network code. But then I see all these complaints about lag and dropped connections and it makes me wonder what exactly the teams working on multiplayer are doing. Is it the broadband structure in the US (which is lagging behind many other industrialized nations like S. Korea and Japan)? Inferior coding skills? PCs have been having MP games for well over a decade, why can't they get console MP right?
I never really have problems with multiplayer on Xbox Live... it always runs really well for me... I was more just commenting on the size of MP which tends to hover between 16v16 - 32v32 with the rare 64v64.... I think the main issue is often not the network issues... but more commitment to building and balancing maps and other mechanics that are required once you start cramming so many people into a small space.

When you are building a console game with all the single player aspects, the DLC integration aspects, and the MP aspects... you have to put in some boundaries... so often the smaller the map sizes the easier it is to crank our maps for it.... vs having to build MASSIVE maps to hold 128v128 or something.

But that is just my hunch.
perhaps its routing to the edge of the world, but i distinctly remember big team battle being dubbed big team lag by more than a few.

be nice if nat issues were resolved as well, that has kept a lot of friends from playing together.
i'm very much looking forward to gamers getting used to playing as part of a larger team. games with excellent mechanics that help us make the transition to larger battles should do well. for consoles in-game quick cross-squad communication toggles are a must.
i can get the demo of halo odst
this should be awesome
Although now that I have been continuously playing the demo to Section 8... my super soldier fix is getting met pretty well. What I am actually looking forward to from ODST is more of a story driven type adventure. And it looks like it might have that.
I got in a couple games of Section 8 yesterday, and it was definitely fun. It spoke of a campaign with the full release.

Looking forward to the odst and the mombasa story as well. I wonder if we'll respawn / 'drop in' in a similar fashion. It was pretty fun to drop in to the battle with no spawn camping..
