Man, I had some great memories with Battletech and the original Mechwarrior robot sim games. I even played quite a bit of Battletech with friends when I was young... creating characters, squads... all sorts of awesome stuff. I even remember making this DOS batch file-based application that was a voice interface to a Battletech corporation computer using Dr. Sbaitso. It would use voice to read out equipment manifests and everything. So geeky.
Anyone else have any Battletech/Mechwarrior memories?
loads of mems.. mostly the battletech paper rpg and mini action. even read a few of those novels years ago too... gotta go check out the trailer now :)
speaking of which, did you hang on to any of that stuff? i recovered some boxes from parental storage some years ago.. but none of the old fasa books *snap* ahh the libraries of the modern geek
Played Battletech for 4 years using the limited resources we cold get our hands on (Using GW Space Marines for mechs cos we couldn't get hold of models). Then 5 years Mechwarrior Roleplay (I was the GM, fun times).
Had the pc games from Mechwarrior 2 onwards (First one didn't sell well here so they never restocked it). Out of all of them, both Mercenary games where the best of series (MW2 Mercs was just awesome).
In fact I'm such a geek on the subject I could prob remember the mech data for each of the 3 shown from memory. And now we're getting a new pre-clan world(s) to blow up... I'm... I'm so happy *weeps with joy*
Jenner scout (Light mech, SRM's and Small Lasers). Atlas (looks like a pirate. Assault Mech, Heavy & Medium Lasers, LRMs, Heavy Autocannon). Wolverine (Odd Model, but it matches what I remember. Medium Mech, PPC, Medium Masers, SRM).
And yes, the Jenner is trash, only advantage is its speed (useless in an urban environment where it not for the jump jets).
And yes the Wolverine does look like a Warhammer without the search light, must have a new design team working on some of the models. Just as long as they leave Dusty Bin, I mean the Urbanmech alone... its just comical (or is that cylindrical?)
Major Flashbacks!! 1995 Playing MechWarrior 2 online with your buddies on a "tricked out" 75 Mhz Packard Bell w/ a smoking 1Mb graphics card, and an upgraded 28.8 modem...8^) I can still hear that modem whistling and pinging as it tried to connect to my Compuserve account.....
I have no history with MechWarrior but this looks like a ton of fun. Game environments just keep getting better and better. Just another game to add to the "looking forward to" list!
CA, is it the original MechWarrior on XBLA? Or a complete revamp on retail disc? I never really got into MechWarrior that much because I was more of a console gamer than a PC gamer, but I'm willing to give it a shot.
I've never been inside a mech, and ever since I knew they existed it felt like I've been missing out. :( I'm not sure if this is the genre for me though, but I really should try it out!
It's awesome to see that type of game come back! :D

It looked like an Atlas fighting a Warhammer (without its urban night fighting light) :)
Although the PPC shots in the video from the warhammer don't look as crazy as PPCs have looked in the past.
