Loaded up Battlefield Heroes, a free to play run and gun shooter... I have to say... I had a good time for the most part.
I dropped $10 just to see what the store had to offer... interesting how you rent equipment. Seems like it could be a gold mine. I bought a rocket launcher and some flashy dress up:
The main issue I have is the same issue I have with all shooters. The battles are rarely balanced. I was either getting my head handed to me over and over again in a battle that turned into them spawn camping us into oblivion... or we rolled over them so easily it was a snooze fest (still fun to win though!).
There needs to be some sort of balance option that keeps the games closer based on your skill and tendencies of play. One game I was in, my whole team was sniping or using the aircraft... so there was no one to do the heavy duty TAKING OF CAPTURE POINTS.... which is sort of the point of the game.
I could see myself playing this for fun every now and again... but I don't think it has much long term value for me... the missions/achievements are neat... but it seems disconnected from the game some how. I will give it a few more tries... see if I get sucked in further.
give battlefield 1943 a try, the balance is there. it is a blast and a half. and it is not much problem getting into a game anymore. penny-arcade nailed the experience i had.
i often stir up the sniper nests and remind the guys that we have objectives. sometimes show them better positions that are more timely to the cause..
